Dimitri started playing around with his older brother's (Stefan Van Elsen), Tascam 4-track cassette porta-studio and Roland MS10 synth when he was about age 15.
A few years later he made a digital remastering of the album 'Withered Land', by Mark Burghgraeve - Somnambulist, using PCM and video.
Mark Burghgraeve introduced Dimtri to Guy Van Mieghem (Vomito Negro) and he became their live sound mixer, which was a great learning experience.
With Stefan, he bought an Atari computer and a sampler and shortly thereafter they released their first 12". Working closely with his brother they made a soundtrack for a modern ballet "concrete" (by Steven Daniels) and continued to make 12" dance records.
In 1991 he went to the Antwerp Jazz Studio to study music. During this time the first album "Sublunar Oracles" was released under the name "Trans-4m".
Teaming up with his brother and Mark Burghgraeve in 1993 - 1994, they made the first "Brain Pilot" album.
During this year he also made his "Matter" album which was never released.
In the next few years he made several albums with his brother Stefan, by the aliases "Brain Pilot" and "Trans4m".
During this time he also became the live sound mixer for "Dive" (Dirk Ivens).
After a few sabbatical years he joined forces with his brother and friend Gert Wijninckx on saxophone (Wijninckx appeared on the first Trans-4M CD "Sublunar Oracles") to form Phluff in 1999. With Phluff they've managed to combine their previous experiences in ambient and techno with their mutual passion for jazz and soundtrack music into a fresh new sound.
Phluff's recording efforts have not remained unnoticed. UK producer and DJ LTJ Bukem signed Phluff to his Cooking label and has released "Trailin'" on the Earth vol. 6 and "Fast Movers" on the Soul Obsession compilation.
After the disappearance of Cookin' Records, Phluff have joined up with Sven Van Hees' label, Your Lips. The EP “Phase Velvet” was released through the iTunes Music Store in 2006.
Dimitri has worked for companies producing multimedia since 1992. Audio, video 3D, websites, DVD, cd-rom, etc.
Currently he is working in IT as an System Engineer.
